Corporations - Overview

Corporations are "Teams" by any other name.

When you Join a Corporation you can choose which Ships and Bases to place under Corporation control. Only you can decided which Ships and Bases to add or remove to and from Corporate control. This is where a lot of the choices end and the fun begins.

When a Ship or Base is in Corporation control any player in the Corporation may operate and control said Ship or Base just as if it were their own. Coordination between Corporation Members is a critical component. Also as critical is a players commitment to stick with a team. To help players in their commitment we require players to become Members or Premium Members to join a Corporation. It is amazing how much more committed players are once they have contributed financially to A Living Universe. This commitment is one factor in a strong and healthy Corporation.

Corporations are a two or three edged sword. Positive benefits are that you have a large pool of resources upon which to draw, if you are attacked and are not on-line other Corporation Members can come to your rescue rather than watch helplessly from the sidelines as your Base gets leveled.

On the downside, if you don't trust a player 100% then you had better not ask them to join. It is just as easy to steal all the valuables and take them back to your base, then resign from the Corporation. Although you may find yourself being blow to tiny little bits by your ex-Partners!

Below are the specific commands special to corporations but here is a short summary.

The Corporate Menu

Corporate Ship List

This option will provide you with a list of all Corporation owned Ships, very similar to the Ship List you are used to using from the Main Menu.
Corporate Base List

Just like the Ship list above but for Bases, just like you are used to using from the Main Menu.
Corporate Summary

Again, similar to the Player Summary from the Main Menu. This option lists side by side all the Corporation Bases and Ships in addition to a few key fields of other data.
Corporate Membership Roster

This option provides you with a list of all the Players in the Corporation.
Corporate High Score

This option provides you with a list of all the Players in the Corporation ranked by Score.
Resign your membership in the Corporation

This option does not need much explanation other than to say use it carefully.

Once this operation has been verified (so you can't do it by accident), all your Ship and Bases will be returned to your exclusive control. If you have some items that don't "belong" to you it would be best to return these or make the proper arrangements. The other option may result in a lot of bloodshed and gnashing of teeth.
Corporation Leader Menu

Invite New Member

When a Corporation Leader wishes to invite a new member into the Corporation this option will send the prospective Member in an invitation which they can accept or reject.
Disband Corporation

Use this option with care. The Transfer Leadership option is a better choice in most cases.

Once this operation has been verified (so you can't do it by accident), all your Ship and Bases will be returned to their original owners exclusive control. This includes all items that are on said Base or Ship so if everyone doesn't have their stuff back this may cause some fighting and other unpleasantness. The Admins are very unlikely to get involved in settling any disputes so be wise and not foolish.
Transfer Leadership

Tired of being the leader? Use this option to transfer control of the Corporation to another Member. This member must have a Premium Membership to qualify as a leader. They are then sent an invitation which they may accept or reject.
Pay Dividend

This option is here as a future place holder once we get the Stock Market operational. (this probably won't be until 2010 so if you're interested talk to an Admin and let us know. Your opinions influence our priorities.)
Frequently Asked Questions about Corporations

Q. What if the corp leader doesn't pay...does the corp tank?

A. Yes, the Corporation is Disbanded. Now that doesn't stop a former Corporation Member from restarting the Corporation and having the rest of the members re-join.

Q. In the question above, what do you mean by "tank"?

A. In this case, the word tank is used to mean, "Cease to exist".

Q. How many tokens is it to start a corp and join one?

A. To start/lead a Corporation you need to be a Premium Member - that is 99 Tokens every 30 days.
To join a Corporation you need to be at least a Standard Member - this is 79 Tokens every 30 days.
You can upgrade your membership from Standard to Premium at any time for only 20 Tokens.
